No Filter [Speaking plainly]

Some folks believe that the truth can be harsh, that it must be “sugar-coated” to make it palatable. Others feel it’s important to hold nothing back. Even then, they may need to signal their intent (#NoFilter).

“Look over there!” This direction sounds clear enough but, with no hint of where we should look (a finger pointing), we might be unable to respond. Clear verbal communication is not always easy. While Jesus was with the disciples, he used figures [parables] to help them understand. Not so today. Jesus is about to demonstrate God’s unconditional love for them and for anyone who calls to God in Jesus’ name. Just ask.

Are we troubled by our lot in life? Are we troubled by the state of the planet? Jesus promises us, “I have said this to you, so that in me you may have peace?” (verse 33)

In our congregation (a joint Anglican/Lutheran fellowship), we end many gatherings with this call: “Glory to God, whose power working in us can do infinitely more that we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever. Amen.” (based on Ephesians 3:20-21)

God of truth, help us to come before you in all situations and to listen to your Word. Amen. — DAK
