Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (verse 16)
What wonderful words of assurance. Because of everything Jesus has done for us, we can approach the throne of grace in order to find God’s undeserving and lavish love, poured out on us in times of need.
Sure, we can think this is good news for when we are down and out or knowing we have so desperately fallen short. And it is. Yet, I think we live in a constant state of need, always dependent on God’s grace to live each moment of every day.
Maybe you’ve heard the prayer: Dear Lord, So far I’ve done all right. I haven’t gossiped, haven’t lost my temper, haven’t been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or overindulgent. I’m really glad about that. But in a few minutes, God, I’m going to get out of bed. And from then on, I’m going to need a lot more help. (author unknown)
God’s grace is there and will be there every step of the way, throughout our days. Thanks be to God, for there is no other way to live.
Gracious God, thank you for your unending mercy and love from your throne of grace. Amen. — HRW
