Saturday October 6th, 2018 1 Timothy 2:1-7
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone? (verse 1)
As each successive generation comes and goes, I know that there are groans and complaints when it comes to our politicians. We in Saskatchewan have just heard that Scott Moe has been elected to replace Brad Wall, Canada’s most popular premier for many years. So, we enter a new era. How will it all play out?
Quick access through social media, tweets and breaking news on radio and television makes news unfolding around the world a 24/7 event. We all react in our own ways. Our opinions can be harsh and full of scorn and contempt for those in leadership positions.
As we read the first two verses of Timothy today, we find beautiful, peaceful words of encouragement for all of us. He urges us to make prayers of intercession for kings, queens, prime ministers, presidents, premiers, mayors, reeves and in fact, for anyone in authority. Our goal is to have a quiet, peaceable life. May we all see our need for God, the mediator, who was sent in human form as a ransom to show us the way, the truth and the life, Christ Jesus.
God of power, lead, guide and grant wisdom upon all in positions of authority. We give thanks to all who let their name stand in church and nation. Amen. — ES
