Why Me Lord?

Where in the world might we go to find no pain, disease, war or racism?

Who in the world lives a life without some conflict, despair or anxiety?

Why in the world are there so many who suffer miserable lives in refugee camps, harassment, inequality, substandard housing and unsafe drinking water?

Today as we ponder all of these earthly woes, we step into the life of a good man named Job. We are transported to the land of Uz. Job had lived a successful life. It was as if all he touched turned to gold.

Then we read of the challenge the Lord gives to Satan after Satan implies that Job would give up all that he had and curse the Lord should it all be taken from him. (A full reading of the book of Job will give great insight into all that Job endured.) The most amazing part of it all was Job’s faithfulness to God. Nothing taken from him or inflicted on him could rattle his strong and steadfast belief in God.

So, as we ponder all of the “why did this have to happen to me” scenarios we encounter, let’s transport ourselves into the book of Job from the land of Uz? stay strong and faithful!

Steadfast God, keep us faithful regardless, the challenge. Amen. — ES
