There has been an emphasis on God’s wisdom and humankind’s frequent lack thereof in this week’s devotional readings. This reminded me of some of my past students who struggled with their written work during my years as a special education teacher. Charts with grammar rules posted in the classroom were helpful to a few of them. Others needed to see examples of successfully completed assignments for inspiration. Some learned best if I started an assignment with them and left them to carry on independently from there.
Early on, God let humankind know why we were here and how we needed to behave. God provided boundaries for us by giving us laws. Later, God sent prophets to remind us of the right way to live and the consequences of poor behavioural choices.
Finally, through the Son of Man, God came in person to show us the right way to live. Jesus brought God’s kingdom of heaven here to earth. Together with his disciples, Jesus fed the hungry, comforted the distressed and cured the sick, regardless of their station in life. He showed them and us what to do and left us to carry on with the work.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to show us the way. Amen. — CKA
