The Path of Blessing

People in power in the world often care only about themselves. They are quick to denounce opponents. They whip up hate by blaming others. It’s all about them. Generosity to the poor is just for show.

But God teaches us a different way. We can choose the path of blessing, which is the path of generosity and love.

A friend of mine is part of a large family. Her parents were devout Christians and while they didn’t have much money growing up, there was always room for one more at the table. She grew up with lots of love and laughter.

One of her favourite sayings is, “We all put our pants on one leg at a time.” Believing that, my friend is open and generous toward everyone, rich or poor. She sees everyone as a child of God. As a result, she is rich in love and friendship.

My friend learned the path of blessing, the path of generosity and love, from her faithful parents. But wherever we are in life, young or old, we can follow Jesus onto that path. We begin with prayer and practise generosity.

Dear God, please give us generous hearts and help us to learn how to love one another as you love us. Amen. — AK
