Wait for the Lord

Thank you, Lord, for your patience with me. When I despair and life around me seems black and hopeless, that is when I turn to you and wait. I wait in hope. For I know that with you there is forgiveness, and you wipe the slate clean. You give me a new start, a fresh beginning. That is what empowers me to wait. I wait, knowing your love is so much greater than my sinfulness and failure. As the psalmist tells us, “O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is great power to redeem.” (verse 7)

For these past seventy years I have seen the power of God’s steadfast love in action. Not only in my life, but in the lives of those I love. It is such love as this that enables me to wait for the Lord, knowing that, though the night seems long and dark, a new morning will dawn. The sun will shine again. God will forgive, restore and bring a new tomorrow. “Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below; praise God above ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.”* Amen.

O God, give us the strength we need to wait in you. Amen. — HF
