Do you remember that time as a child when you wanted a certain gift so much that you could hardly contain your excitement? You made sure that you mentioned it regularly and dropped hints to your parents or any other potential gift givers to keep in mind for your birthday. When the day arrived and you found the coveted gift in your hands, joy abounded. You could hardly wait to show it off at school the next day.
Then, if your friends failed to respond with the same excitement, or had something similar to or better than what you received, how did you feel? Were you able to maintain the happiness of the previous day? Or did disappointment start to creep into your mind?
Christ never disappoints. He knows that we need the gift of grace and exactly how much we need. There is no need to be concerned about size, shape or colour, or whether we have Grace 2.0 versus the newer model. Christ’s grace is perfectly suited to each and every one of us and given freely. All we have to do is open ourselves to accept it.
Dear Lord, help us to remember the preciousness of your gift of grace and to accept it gratefully. Amen. — CS
