Making Amends

There are times when we do things-intentionally or not-that are wrong, and before long we start to feel the consequences.

In the case of David, he saw a beautiful woman he wanted to have as his wife, and he used his power to obtain her. This David seems very far removed from the one who took on Saul or who faced down Goliath with only a stone and a slingshot. This David only sees the error in his action when confronted by God via the prophet Nathan. At that instant, David repents and turns back to the Lord, and Nathan is able to reassure him that God is with him and will continue to be with him despite the challenges that lie ahead as amends are made.

Sometimes we, too, venture far from God’s presence. When we find ourselves there it can feel like a very dark and lonely place, but we are never alone; God is always ready and waiting for us to turn back to God. All we need do is ask for the help we need to find the steps forward to make amends.

Dear Lord, when we seek the road to forgiveness, give us the strength we need to voyage forward. Amen. — CS
