Sunday July 8th, 2018 7th Sunday after Pentecost Mark 6:1-13
He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. (verses 8-9 )
Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? However, people don’t really live like that and besides, my dream house wouldn’t be what my children would want. But the city described in this psalm sounds idyllic because the Lord dwells there, too. The psalmist goes further than saying the place belongs to God; God is the fortified city in the mountains, a place where their enemies flee rather than attack such a formidable stronghold. We are encouraged to see God as such a stronghold, a place where we are safe and protected from all that we fear.
Lord, when I have nothing left, please give me the faith to get through the unknown. Amen. — EP
