Comfort in Belief

I go to a knitting group on Wednesday mornings, where several friends and I meet up to knit, have coffee and sometimes breakfast and, as they say in England, “set the world to rights.” Over the past year one of us has lost her father, another her mother, and we have supported each other through these as well as illnesses and worries over children. We all find it a safe place in the week to relax and share our joys and troubles. How wonderful it is to have the comfort of good friends.

How much more so when that friend gives us good and faithful guidance. Here we see both Paul’s joy in Titus’ faithfulness and the reflected joy from the people of Corinth at his guidance. We also see Paul’s pride in the people there, that they have shown to Titus that they are believers, despite a few hiccups along the way. It is a good reminder of the friend we all have in God, who believes in us, cares for us, grieves with us and is always ready to guide us back on our way when we falter.

Faithful God, help us to turn to you for comfort when we have lost our way. Thank you for the joy we find in you. Amen. — ERP
