" .. they look on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart." (verse 7)
I didn’t want to waste time getting changed. I had just finished mowing the lawn and wasn’t exactly wearing my Sunday best but I didn’t care! I was off to look at a new car. It was only a short drive to the car dealership but it was long enough for my excitement to build. I was grinning from ear to ear as I knew that there was going to be a new car in my future.
The showroom was full of cars and advisors but no buyers. I saw the car right away and walked over to it, opened the driver’s door and stepped in. Hands on the steering wheel and eyes closed, I imagined driving it. Next was the walk around: I checked out the wheels and opened the hatch. “Was it a full spare?” I wondered.
Not one advisor made eye contact with me let alone offered assistance. Having come directly from doing yard work, I knew that I looked somewhat disheveled but could that be why? Was it because I was young? A woman?
In the end, I left and went elsewhere to purchase the car. I never did find out the why but to this day, I believe that it was because I had been judged.
With you by my side, Lord, I will not judge others. Amen. — DR
