?David took the lyre and played it with his hand, and Saul would be relieved and feel better? (verse 23)
I wish I could sing. I wish that I could paint. I wish?and so it goes. In fact, over the years, there have been times when my “I wish” list has grown and others when it has been shortened but I still have one. Why is that? I think that it’s because I have seen first-hand how such gifts not only touch others but have touched me as well. From tears during the powerful rendition of a hymn to the sense of calm that arises while gazing deep into the eyes of someone captured on canvas or the memories invoked while admiring how an artist recreated a landscape, each stirred my emotions.
The funny thing is that most of what appears on the list are the abilities that I simply do not possess and likely never will. The “I can” list is actually much longer and yet it’s easy to lose sight of. First and most important? Love. I have been given the ability to love and to always be there for my partner, friends and family. It’s the gift that is always present and appears in whatever form is needed. What better gift is there?
Dear God, you have blessed me with your love and given me the ability to do the same for others. Amen. — DR
