I Love Work

When you think of doing the work of Christ, what comes to mind for you? I have asked that question many times and heard things like, serving at the soup kitchen, going to church, Bible studies, loving my neighbour. These are all wonderful and truthful answers, but I believe there is even more.

As we think about the stories in the Gospels that tell of Christ’s ministry and teachings, I have a sense that each and every moment of his days was filled with accomplishing what God sent him to do. There were no days off, no “in camera” moments when his work was off the record. Doing the work of Christ is a 24/7, 365 days a year, every year call. We are doing the work of Christ in our families, in our careers, in all our decisions and actions. Christ is at work at the very centre of our lives, and we are at work for Christ in the centre of all we do.

John has written this letter to Gaius to encourage and commend the faithful work he is doing among friend and stranger alike.

May we be to each other words of encouragement and support, not to puff up but to give strength to the work we do together. In the name of Christ. Amen. — LH
