Sunday May 13th, 2018 7th Sunday of Easter John 17:6-19
"But now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy made complete in themselves." (verse 13)
Years ago, I took a course entitled “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carengie. One of the principles cited in the course was “give people a reputation to live up to.” In other words, plant the seed of “You can do this; you are a good and capable person” in their minds.
Jesus knows the time has come for him to walk the final path of his earthly journey, and he has been preparing his slow-to-comprehend disciples. Just as the disciples who were with him, so we, too. listen in on the prayer Jesus prays for them and for us. Jesus’ prayer is filled with words of encouragement and care. It is filled with words of protection and the assurance that Jesus has given us all that we need, he has given us the fullness of the Father, and we can stand tall and boldly live with the joy of Jesus in our hearts.
Jesus has given us a reputation to live up to and has filled us with the words and will to be his disciples.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you have filled us with your joy and have given us the fullness of God. Amen. — LH
