See!

See?

See what happens when we leave our comfortable pews and do what God asks? The “See” can be said in a derogatory tone, suggesting it would have been better that Peter stayed home. Or, it can be said in an excited voice, kind of like, Wow!

See what happens when we collect food and clothes for the local food banks? See what happens when we take time to sponsor and help refugees settle in a new land? See what happens when we open our hearts to those long denied justice?

What happens is God works. The Holy Spirit rained down upon those who heard Peter share the Good News. The church was forced into a new direction, accepting new people, and it exploded. There were many derogatory “Sees!” back then, just as there are now when we open the door to those long thought outside God’s mercy and grace.

But Wow! To hear a young woman say, “Are we really welcome in your church?” and see the relief in her face to find a welcoming community. To hear many voices saying, “Oh good, spaghetti,” or “Look at that coat,” as we unload our collection at the local shelter. To watch families make Canada their new home, so appreciative of the acceptance and safety we offer.

See!

Lord, work through us. Amen. — DAB
