Faith

When we listen to the news, all we hear are negatives. We hear about shootings, we hear about bombings, and now we hear about vehicles being driven into people. Many are killed and many more are wounded. And the same negative news is repeated day after day for days on end. But just the other day there was a good news story regarding a policeman who, instead of arresting a shoplifter, decided to buy the shirt and tie so that this person could go for a job interview. The young fellow got the job. Regretfully, we only heard about this story one day and then it was forgotten, but faith moves mountains, and I suspect this young fellow’s self-respect has been elevated.

Faith is the fruit of God’s gracious Spirit that sweetens a sour world. It replaces suspicion and distrust with friendship and hope. This is a promise from our Lord who died on the cross for our sins. We are to cultivate our faith daily by reading God’s word daily, and thankfully, God always has faith in us.

Gracious God, we ask for your assistance and your guidance to open our hearts and our minds to have faith in Jesus Christ. Amen. — BW
