Standing Up to Satan

The devil is very clever. He is able to tempt us in ways we cannot even think of. He uses us without our knowledge. He used Peter to try to tempt Christ to use his powers not to go to the cross, but Jesus saw through these words and knew they were from Satan. Peter could not see God’s divine plan to save us all from our sins. As Martin Luther said, “We are all saints and we are all sinners.”

Part of the meaning of Lent is to prepare ourselves for the death and resurrection of Christ. We need to be always mindful of how the devil works in our lives and to not be deceived by him. We have help from the Bible, God’s holy words. It teaches us how to live our daily lives and how to recognize the tricks of Satan. We should not care what other people think, but only what God thinks of us, for one day we will meet God, and we will know what God thinks of us.

Loving God, we ask you to rule our every thought and action. Help us to always know you sacrificed your life on the cross for us. Amen. — BW
