Are We Just Normal?

It’s after Easter. Just after Easter. Barely after Easter. Are we still celebrating? Or have we fallen into the habits and ways we were in before Easter? So often, in the buildup to a festival like Easter, our lives can gain momentum and excitement. There is an air of fresh anticipation. And then it is over and done with, and we just return to our regular lives until next year.

In some ways, that is how things work at the Golden Retreat as well. Those who return come with an air of anticipation and thrill in the excitement of a week that goes by way too fast. And then we return home to our lives. And yet we take something extra home with us, something that stays with us, something that urges us to attend the next year.

What is it we take with us following Easter? Do we continue to commemorate joyfully the festival that celebrates the risen Christ and all that can mean in our lives? Or do we simply allow things to get back to normal? While Christ’s sacrifice was made only once, isn’t it to be celebrated by us every day? So rejoice in the message of Easter again today and in the days to come.

Merciful Lord, may I be reminded of the blessing of your resurrection by sharing it with others today. Amen. — LGR
