Waiting with Hope

In 2016, it took much longer than usual for farmers across the prairies to complete the harvest. As producers waited for the heavy autumn rains to end, they prayed that snow would not arrive early. In the middle of winter and even the following spring, there were still people attempting to gather whatever remaining grain they could. It tested not only the patience, but the faith of many farmers who wondered if harvest time might never arrive at all.

In the time between Good Friday and Easter morning, Jesus’ disciples weren’t sure what would come next. They went into hiding to avoid being recognized as Christ’s closest followers. Soldiers might be searching for them in order to execute them. They likely wondered if everything Jesus had taught them had come to an end with his death.

Sometimes our fear prevents us from seeing the good news, but looking back, we recognize how God was always with us, powerfully at work. As Christ’s disciples, we are called to encourage each other to wait in hope, expecting signs of new life to appear.

Faithful God, in times of doubt, remind me of your presence and your promises. Amen. — KLS
