No one likes to have his or her character painted adversely. But responses to attacks on our integrity might vary. Some might choose silence. Others might request reasons and provide answers for what they feel are unfounded allegations against them.
To conclude that trusting God will suffice is never an easy stance to adopt in the face of persecution. But faith’s history has shown turning points and uncertain moments that call for understanding. Faithful roads will take us through dark places which require confidence.
In the face of opposition accompanied by distress, Isaiah teaches us to take a stand for hope in God’s justice. This is the hope that holds us up morning by morning. It is the Lord’s initiative that defines both the vocation and destiny of the faithful. God’s help in the midst of whatever overshadows the light to our paths is what gives us courage to prevail against the odds.
Forces do attempt to derail our personhood. The embarrassment can be overwhelming. Sometimes, we are shaken so as never to be the same again. But we can rely on God’s mercy to declare us free when we are innocent and even restore us when we are guilty.
Dear God, you are the reason why we persevere. Help us to believe that no one or nothing can prevent your help from reaching us. Amen. — MP
