Tuesday March 20th, 2018 Psalm 118:1-2,19-29
The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone. (verse 22)
There are days when probably the last thing we would want to do is to rejoice. Our mood might be down. Some specific situation has taken a turn for the worse. Sorrow is overwhelming. Guilt seems to be staring at us. These experiences will evidently shake our confidence.
On such occasions, we can readily identify with the psalmist who cries out for God’s saving grace. The psalmist is honest about his feelings. He does not hide them or pretend that they are not real. But beyond expressing feelings of insecurity, the writer relies on the Lord to save. Knowledge of the source of relief is commendable. In its absence, the burdens of living can become unbearable.
So, in our struggles, we are reminded of the cornerstone which is the foundation stone holding a structure together. God in Christ is our cornerstone. Christ is our help when the wholeness of life is threatened. He can be trusted to help us regain a balanced composure. Through our chief cornerstone, Jesus Christ, sadness in the heart can be transformed to a song of joy.
Faithful God, your love is unfailing. Help us to have the confidence that in all things you are working for our good. Amen. — MP
