Saturday March 3rd, 2018 1 Corinthians 1:18-25
For God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength. (verse 25)
One night, just before my father died, I sat in a chair beside his bed and tried to sleep. Periodically, a nurse would come in and check on him. Each time, I would lift my head and nod. Around 4 a.m., I was so tired I didn’t lift my head when someone came into the room and stood there. A very peaceful feeling came over me, and I felt a warm glow in the room.
Finally, I had to see who was there. There was no one. The room was dark and gray. It was then that I realized the Holy Spirit was with us that night.
The First Letter of Paul to the Corinthians reminds us that God is powerful, and God’s wisdom is infinite. As humans, we know nothing compared to God. The cross is a mystery.
We cannot logically explain why Jesus died a slow painful death for our sins. We simply must have faith in God. Each of us must develop our own personal relationship with God. We need to believe with our hearts, not our minds, in the grace of God and have faith in God’s word.
God of greatness, help us to let go of our foolishness and embrace your wisdom and power. Amen. — JR
