"?and after three days he will rise again." (verse 34)
About a decade ago, our minister chose the book In His Steps: What Would Jesus Do, as the book we would study throughout the season of Lent. It is a fascinating story of how individuals ask, “What would Jesus do?” every time they face a moral dilemma.
Asking this question might seem simple, but for some it means financial loss, change in friendships and facing judgment from those around them. Even 10 years later, this book has influenced my decisions and helps me to live my life according to the scriptures.
Jesus foretells his death three times, and yet, some of his disciples are too distracted by their earthly desires to understand that he will suffer a painful death so that we may be saved. Jesus wants his disciples to focus on their riches in heaven instead of how they can benefit and profit from their positions on earth.
It is not easy living according to the scriptures. Sometimes sharing our faith in God with others can be frightening. Jesus wants us to remember that our riches and rewards are in heaven. He died so that we might be saved, and that is the greatest gift of all.
God in heaven, may we remember that our reward is in heaven through eternal salvation. Amen. — JR
