Are you happy with everything you have or are you the kind of person that when your neighbour buys a new BMW you go out and buy a JAG? In today’s society, some people think bigger is better, or if something costs a lot it must be great. We need to take a step back and ask ourselves how many possessions we really need. Will my life be over if I don’t buy that new car? I think not.
God says through Isaiah, that God’s hands have made everything you need. But that doesn’t mean just for you or me; God’s gifts are for everyone. Take just what you need and leave the rest.
I knit a lot and really enjoy doing so. However, I do not keep everything I knit. I usually give my work away as gifts or to anyone who could use my knitted things because they do not have much and may possibly be struggling.
We are called to help our neighbour and through us God will provide for all, since God is the one who made it all and we are God’s messengers, God’s hands in providing for creation.
Almighty God, allow us to be your hands as we provide for those who do not have what they need, and remind us that we should give and not keep what you have made. Amen. — EW
