Stained Glass Windows

This is Transfiguration Sunday. We witness the glory of God in its fullness. We, like the disciples, may not fully understand what is happening. But we are called to listen, to let the mountaintop experience transform us. And then we are called to bear the light of the one we meet in Christ and let his light shine through us.

A stained glass window does not produce light of its own, it simply transforms the light of the sun into a brilliant array of colours beneath it. I once asked a group of children what they thought a saint was. Without hesitation, one child pointed up to a stained glass window in the church and declared, “A saint is someone who lets the light through.”

That is what we are called to do: to let the light of the Son shine through us and transform the world around us. We are called to be saints and to let God’s light shine through us.

Dear Lord, shine your transforming light through my life, that others may see your glory. Amen. — VB
