Sometimes Waiting’s OK

As I read today’s scripture, I was carried back in time almost 39 years to a prairie town community hall where we had gathered to say goodbye to my stillborn son. During the service, a group of teenagers sang a song that contained the words of verse 31.

During my life there have been times of great joy and times of great sorrow, there have been times when I have felt God’s loving arms embracing me and times when I have felt utterly forsaken. But at all times, I have known that I am not alone. When I did not have the emotional or spiritual strength to go on, the community of faith has carried me.

This is an amazing thing. God knows us. God refused to remain isolated from us, but lived amongst us in Jesus: Jesus who experienced family, Jesus who knew love and friendship, Jesus who knew suffering and betrayal, Jesus who is one with the Father.

Through Jesus, God calls us to comfort, support, encourage, guide, push and walk with one another as is necessary. And yes, to carry those who can do nothing other than wait.

Embracing God, help us to carry others until their strength is renewed. Amen. — VSR
