Tuesday January 2nd, 2018 Isaiah 60
Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. (verse 1)
We are told each week that we should spread the good news of Jesus to all those around us. We are sometimes concerned at the magnitude of this task. To take the news to everyone around us means that we are to be talking about Jesus or acting like Jesus at all times. How are we to do this? Well for starters, we need to be truthful, to smile and greet people.
When my son was in Grade 2, his teacher taught him that he was not to speak to or be involved with people he did not know. So he was upset when he and I were walking around town one Saturday and I was smiling at people I did not know. He found it difficult to reconcile my smiling at those around me and his teacher’s words at school. I finally decided that maybe he would understand better if I quoted this message from Isaiah to him. A few days later he had decided that God knows what he is talking about, and even though you did not know people, you could still greet them with a smile.
Gracious God, thank you for asking us to shine your light upon those we are meeting and those with whom we are visiting. Amen. — ES
