One Fact

Jesus is coming! Are you ready? Yes? Well keep waiting. Jesus will come. Patience is a virtue. Are we there yet? Soon and very soon. Living in the “in-between” is not easy. Knowing Christ is coming changes how we act in the meantime. Anticipation can churn our innards. The tension begs to be resolved. Why is God’s promise so slow in coming?

Peter says, “Here is one fact to keep in mind. With the Lord one day is like a thousand years!” Wow! That is a change in perspective. Jesus is coming! Maybe tomorrow. Maybe thousands of years from now. But be ready.

The anticipation of Advent is a microcosm of our vocation of waiting for the Lord. So much of life and faith is about hanging on with hopeful expectation that God’s promise will be fulfilled. A lifetime of watchfulness for God’s new creation changes our living in the here and now. Through Advent and throughout your life, it is a call to faithful living. Jesus is coming!

If your coming is tomorrow or not for a thousand years, All the patience we may borrow, will one day erupt in cheers. Amen. — DH
