Darkness into Light

Depression; it seems to be all around us. We are heading into the season of short days, long nights and colder weather in North America, when many people suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Others experience depression arising from loss or disappointment; still others require life-long medication to balance their brain chemistry.

Whether we are one of the sufferers or standing by a friend or loved one, it is imperative to remember that God still loves us and will never desert us. With the psalmist we can ask, “O send out your light and your truth; let them lead me.” (verse 3) Light is one of the treatments for SAD. Seeking for and finding the truth of God’s love can lift the heaviest heart. Then we can, indeed, again praise God.

God of light, shine into the darkness of our sadness and bring us to joy. Amen. — RK
