Moses was not going to enter the Promised Land. The last forty years of his life had been spent struggling with the people of Israel, suffering a long desert wandering because they had not trusted the Lord. His goal was almost completed, yet he was not going to be there when the people he had led would receive what they had been promised. Moses submits willingly, but he must have been frustrated.

Most people have experienced the frustration of coming close and yet not achieving the goal for which they have worked. Some have seen the goal achieved by others. Hopefully, frustration does not win, and they are able to know that their work was not in vain.

Moses knew that his leadership with the people allowed them to enter the Promised Land under Joshua and so he died content.

Dear Lord, give us the strength and wisdom to work for the glory of your kingdom without seeking reward. Amen. — DG
