My grandma beautifully embroidered this psalm, my mom framed it, and it hung over my bed as a little girl. I can still picture the little lamb, stream, flowers and meadow that she carefully stitched; it was the first scripture that I committed to memory, and the words bring tremendous peace, comfort and assurance of God’s love.
Psalm 23 is the most googled passage from the Bible, perhaps because it is all-encompassing; it speaks of life and death and everything in between. It reminds us that we have a shepherd who brings healing to broken places and anoints our heads with healing and hope. The words of David also tell us about true rest. It is when we are still in the shepherd and meditate on God’s word that God can do amazing work in our lives and give us what we truly need. In that powerful confidence, we will not want.
God of restoration, thank you for healing our broken places in the peaceful promise of living in your loving protection. — LMB
