So Thankful

In 2011, I learned how to walk for the second time. After a rather dramatic piecing together of my ankle with a metal plate and many pins, I remember reading this passage while alternating my leg in and out of hot and cold water tanks, dreaming of running and dancing again.

It is the story of 10 lepers who saw Jesus; they called to him for mercy and healing. Isn’t it interesting that Jesus could have healed them immediately, but instead, he asked them to do something to express their faith? He said, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” It was in that act that they were cleansed.

On this Thanksgiving Sunday, this powerful story reminds us of the praise that precedes the blessing. It is the powerful first steps of faith in trust and gratitude that go against what the mind wants to reason, when on the surface everything appears hopeless.

Today, let us be like the one leper who gave thanks for God’s amazing plan and the daily miracles that make everything possible in Christ.

Healing God, I praise you with thanksgiving. Thank you for revealing yourself to me in so many beautiful and amazing ways. Amen. — LMB
