God Opens Another Door

When one door closes, another opens. This simple saying is meant to encourage a person when a way of life is coming to a close. When someone loses their job or when a relationship comes to an end, we encourage them by telling them that other opportunities will come their way. Perhaps when these situations come our way, we comfort ourselves with this simple saying, too. We turn to God with our prayers that God will bring us through the hard times by leading us in a different direction.

When the Israelites were fleeing Egypt, it looked like the doors were closing around them. In front of them was the sea. Behind them was the Egyptian army trying to overtake them. The situation was bleak, at least to their way of seeing. But God had a plan to open other doors for the Israelites. God’s power flowed through Moses’ hand as he stretched it out over the sea, pushing the sea aside so the people could walk on dry land. When the Egyptians followed the Israelites, their chariots got stuck and the sea flowed back over them, drowning the entire army. The Israelites were saved. And they believed and trusted God all the more.

God, when we feel trapped, encourage us with your power that provides new pathways ahead. Amen. — DBB
