Truth to Power

I am writing this on the anniversary of the death of Martin Luther King Jr., and on this day I am reminded of a quote attributed to him, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”

Dr. King and countless others have been the voices that bend the moral universe toward justice as they bravely speak out with messages of love and inclusion, especially in the face of hatred and division. That work is not over; today blacks, First Nations, Muslims, immigrants, refugees, LGBTQ2 and other communities still face hatred and oppression.

Many people have been inspired by the hope and bravery of voices like Nathan and Dr. King working for freedom and doing the kingdom work of bending the arc of the moral universe toward justice. How might you support them in that work? How might you be one of those voices today?

God of all, you continuously send brave prophets to speak your truth to the powers that oppress. May those voices inspire our own brave voices. Voices that are needed to bring about equality and justice for all of your beloved creation. Amen. — SWH
