Team Weber

In our family, we are delighted when everyone cheerfully helps with chores and we work together to get jobs done quickly. We refer to ourselves as “Team Weber” and celebrate our victory. When everyone respects the family rules and works as a team, we are more likely to accomplish our goals.

In today’s Bible passage, Jesus gives a pep talk to his team of disciples. Unfortunately, he has to go away for awhile. As coach, Jesus reminds the disciples to play by the rules that he has taught to them. He knows that those rules will help the disciples with the work that they have to do.

What are some of the rules that your parents or teachers taught you which help you to be a team player? How do God’s commandments help us to accomplish the work that God wants us to do?

Before he left, Jesus assured the disciples that he wasn’t abandoning them as their coach. He promised to send a highly-qualified substitute coach to teach them, and to remind them of what he had taught. Moreover, Jesus promised that he would continue to reveal himself to them. There were going to be challenges ahead, but the team was in good hands.

Holy Spirit, remind us of Jesus' teachings so that we may work as part of your team to accomplish your will. Amen. — JW
