I will not leave you orphaned

My husband and I are foster parents. Our children have experienced loss and abandonment. There is a song we sing to our children every night as we tuck them into bed. “You are precious, you are loved, you are wanted, you are special.” It is a reminder for them that they have a place in our family. Whatever difficulties they may face in their lives, at the end of the day they have a safe place to fall. They can go to sleep knowing that they are loved.

Jesus is getting ready to ascend and to leave the disciples behind to do their ministry. He wants to assure them that they are precious, they are loved, they are wanted and they are special, so that at the end of a hard day they can fall asleep knowing that he has not abandoned them. He wants to assure them. They are loved and he has not orphaned them. He has sent them an advocate and guide in the Holy Spirit.

What assurance it gives to know that we have a Saviour who promises to never abandon us, to always love us.

Dear Lord, when we feel lost and alone remind us that you promised to abide in us and to not leave us orphaned. We are precious, loved, wanted and special. Amen. — VB
