Life

It is fall as I write this, about one month away from the election in the USA. I have my opinion like many other people, but living in a border city, I take an even stronger interest in the election.

One candidate in the election would call himself a self-made man. He earned everything, worked hard, deserves everything that he has: his wealth, his popularity and his influence. He owes no one anything. I doubt he understands the feeling of being chained to despair, poverty, oppression, violence.

The candidate is not alone in thinking that they have it all together. Many of us, myself included, will fall into the trap of believing that we don’t need anyone or anything in this world. What I have, I have earned.

But if we truly look at ourselves, what do we have? Does it truly bring us joy, hope, peace? Maybe for the moment. But moments fade and pass.

God offers us freedom and life-to the full. No strings, no glitz, no regrets. LIFE.

Holy God, break all that binds us, today and always. Amen. — BM
