May the 4th Be with You!

Today is often called Star Wars Day because of the play on this movie franchise’s famous statement, “May the Force be with you.” What in the world does this have to do with our reading from Acts?! I see the goodwill of the Christian community in these words, well, if we change “Force” to “Lord.” The goodwill of the early Christian community was such that we are told that everyone who came into that community would sell all of their possessions and use the proceeds to assist the community at large. It is a brilliant vision of how this world could be if we were to do things differently.

“May the Lord be with you” can come to mean, “May the goodwill of our calling as people of faith be with you, in our mutual sharing of our resources so that we can all flourish and thrive.” Sharing a common vision, a common goal and a common goodwill can be a powerful tool for change within a community and beyond.

How does the goodwill of our church affect you and your life? Your sense of mission?

May we continue to work together for the common goodwill of all!

Loving God, continue to inspire our goodwill so that we can build up our community. Amen. — RCW
