?God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness." (verse 6)
In every religion in our world today the theme of light shining in darkness is both a powerful metaphor and a lived experience for many people. This theme speaks to the very real need for enlightenment, wisdom, insight, clarity of vision and new perspectives in our lives and in how we live in our world.
Darkness comes in many forms, quite literally of course, but also in some very metaphorical ways too. Prejudice, pride, envy, hatred, addiction, fear, paranoia and loneliness are all experiences of darkness which affect and impact many people in our world. All of the world’s religions encourage their adherents to see their theology as a light that shines in the darkness of our lives and into the experiences of darkness. But it is about much more than that as well, isn’t it?
All of us are encouraged to be vessels of light, to act as mirrors reflecting light, to help those among us who experience or live in darkness to experience light through acts of love in the midst of hate, kind words in the midst of loss, etc.
How are you filled by light? How are you a reflection of light?
God of light, help us to be vessels and examples of light shining in the darkness of the world. Amen. — RCW
