One of the beautiful aspects of today’s reading is the pure faith of Paul and his reliance on the Lord to rescue and save him for the heavenly kingdom. Jesus was Paul’s mentor.
God leads us with mentors to teach and counsel on our daily journey. Timothy was blessed with quality mentors. His mother Lois and grandmother Eunice taught Christian faith by their example. Paul was one of Timothy’s primary mentors. While Paul was abandoned by others, Paul knew after mentoring him, Timothy would continue in the Christian faith after Paul had departed to receive the crown of righteousness.
I had the privilege of mentoring/orientating many nurses. If you need a mentor, choose a person who is doing their job professionally, correctly and incorporate their style into yours. Watch but not practise the mistakes of others. It is a gift for mentors to see their students become wonderful, caring nurses and professionals.
To Paul’s credit, Timothy did successfully carry on the ministry and is commemorated by the Church today. It is our honour to follow Paul’s example by daily living as Christian mentors to family, neighbours and those following in our footsteps.
Thank you, Lord, for being our mentor in the past, present and all of the future. Amen. — G&CW
