Let’s Hear it for Faithfulness

Canadian Oxford Dictionary defines “faithful” as “loyal, trustworthy, constant.” A faithful person is the one we want in our corner, standing by us through thick and thin, a person who keeps promises.

Too often we human beings fail in this regard. A father or mother abandons a child, a spouse dishonours the marriage vows, an employer fires an employee without cause, a friend turns on his buddy and bullies him.

There is one who is loyal, trustworthy and constant: the Lord. In this day of changing allegiances, untrustworthy business owners, and people who are not as good as their word, what a comfort to know we can count on the faithfulness of an unchanging God who has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

O God, your faithfulness is matchless and strong; your compassion and love are constant. There is not even a hint that you will ever turn your back on me; your loyalty is beyond compare. You stand by your word; you keep your promises. You are the same-every day, every month, every year. You have given me everything that I need, and each new day brings me fresh gifts of your grace.

O God, our faithful God, be our strength and keep us faithful. Amen. — KBL
