Prayer

As I write this, Fort McMurray is in the headlines. When I opened my computer this morning the first thing I saw was an appeal to help the people in northern Alberta. The fires are causing a lot of despair and I hope people are praying for Fort McMurray.

However, we have needs every day and we can pray any time. When tragedies and problems prevail we need someone to whom we can talk, and who is better than God, for God hears and understands. The fact that we have shared our problem, no matter how small or large, gives us a kind of satisfaction. We don’t always get instant answers, but we know that someone greater than us is listening and helping.

This psalm reminds us that God loves us and will hear our cry. God forgives our sins, loves us and saves us. For what else can we hope? God is always there to hear our prayers.

The opportunities to help are great: not only Fort McMurray, but the Syrian refugees need our money, clothes, food, furniture, building supplies, love and comfort. Remember, often God answers prayer through us!

Please, Lord, hear our prayer and use us to help others so they may know you love and care for them. Amen. — GS
