Matthew does not tell us how these blind men found Jesus or how they could be so positive that he could heal them. It occurs to me that the disciples must have been good teachers. Jesus tells those he healed not to tell anyone but it seems they did not listen. We still use this phrase today: Don’t tell! And suddenly everyone knows. I can only compare it to my children who would tell their friends what we were having for dinner and suddenly we had all their neighbourhood friends at our house!
There is no question Jesus was a crowd pleaser, but somehow we have lost the charm when we talk about his cures. We do not realize that he makes it possible for researchers to find and do miracles. We read about amazing medical discoveries, but do we give Jesus credit? I saw a program on TV where a child in Ukraine needed several prostheses because of injuries suffered in bombings, and a Canadian doctor was treating this child so he would be able to lead a normal life-truly a Jesus miracle!
Thank you, Lord, for our medical people who have wisdom to do great things, and thank you that they are willing to do it where it is needed so desperately. Amen. — GS
