Walking A Tight Rope

I love the circus. I love clowns, lions, and the crazy person who walks the tightrope one hundred feet above ground. I have to admit, my heart beats a little faster when I see someone walking a tightrope that high up. An inch to the left or right and we are hearing some serious screaming.

Sometimes life comes with the pressures of walking a tightrope. God gives us a lot of responsibilities. Some of us are parents. Raising children comes with a lot of pressure to raise them right. Some of us are married. Trying to have a healthy marriage takes a lot of work. Some of us have high intensity jobs. I couldn’t imagine operating on someone. Some of us have financial burdens. Wouldn’t it be nice if we received as many cheques as we received bills? You get the picture.

Our psalmist talks about living out God’s rules. Sometimes living out our faith can feel like walking a tightrope. What if I mess up? Happiness is connected to following God’s commands. When we follow God’s ways we are living the life we are meant to live. Yet, when we fail to live this way, the forgiveness and grace we experience through Jesus catches us when we fall off that tightrope.

Merciful God, thank you for your gracious love. Amen. — WHB
