Choose life so that you and your descendants may live? (verse 19)
This past year I went through the call process. Now the call process comes with a lot of opportunity to make choices. Am I ready to move on? Where is God calling me next? What gifts do I bring to my new context? Does my family want to move?
The congregation wrestles with similar questions. Did we work well with the former pastor? What kind of pastor are we looking for now? What gifts do we have to offer? What is our mission as a congregation?
God created us as free beings who have opportunities to choose what kind of life we want to live. Sometimes our choices are easy to make, and sometimes we need time to discern. Whether we are going through a call process or thinking of changing a career or deciding on what to have for dinner, we face choices all the time. Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed by the amount of choice we have.
In Deuteronomy, God calls us to choose God’s way. When we can remember that God is at the centre of our lives, guiding us as we make these tough decisions then maybe we won’t feel so anxious, so worried about our future. Listen! God is there offering us life.
Guiding God, help us lean on you when making choices in our lives. Amen. — WHB
