Wednesday February 1st, 2017 Isaiah 58:1-12
?if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. (verse 10)
When a tragedy happens, we see requests for prayer fly up on social media. I know I’ve posted petitions myself. But sometimes I have to stop and ask, is it enough? Or even, do I really mean it?
The answer to the question is it enough is, no, it’s not. At least it’s not enough if we fill social media and conversation with empty words. Do I mean it? I hope that I do, but surely I must back up my words with actions for them to be sincere.
Isaiah, in God’s word, said that true worship involves much more than putting on a good show of attending church and offering up prayer. We must also face the challenge of meeting people at their point of need and show genuine compassion for the poor, the helpless and the oppressed.
I don’t know about you, but often it feels much easier to me to say the words and just stay in my comfort zone.
How grateful we can be that God shows us the way through Jesus and loves us through it all.
Lord, help our actions to reflect our words. Amen. — DLG
