Walk a Mile in Their Shoes

I remember some time ago when an office I worked with started bringing in managers from outside sources rather than promoting from within. Many of us struggled a bit with this because we felt that, while having many good skills, these managers had never done our jobs, so couldn’t really relate to some of the things we experienced.

I believe we all have the need to know that someone wholly understands us and can relate to our experiences. How blessed we are, then, that Jesus was willing to become fully human in order to fully embrace and understand the human condition.

Jesus understands our weaknesses and the temptations we face, yet was able to do what even the most empathetic of us cannot do: be offered as a sacrifice so that we may be reconciled to God; die and rise again so that we may have eternal life.

When we know that Jesus went through the same human struggles as we all face, it gives us faith and confidence that we do not have to let our trials defeat us but, instead, can successfully overcome them.

Jesus, thank you that you became one of us, walked among us, understood us and gave your life for us. Amen. — DLG
