Saturday January 28th, 2017 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? (verse 20)
Our 21st century, like all past centuries, is full of wise, scholarly and philosophical people. We live in a technological world unlike any other. Gadgets abound and consumerism is alive and well. I am sure there are many times when we ask ourselves where it all will end. What will be thought of next to supposedly improve our way of life as we journey through our time on this earth?
Our reading today is somewhat of a reality check. Yes, time to check in and see if we are falling into the category of the foolish. Have the things of this world become our stumbling block? Verse 26 may help us put life back into perspective. As in Paul’s day, not many of us are wise, influential or noble by human standards. However, in our calling, in our learning, in our studying of God’s word, and because of what God has done for us, our foolish ways become transformed by God’s wisdom and love for us.
Thank God for taking the foolish ways of our secular world, nullifying them and offering salvation to those who believe. Help us to embrace the wisdom of God’s ways.
God, continue to lead us and all future generations into the light of your life. Amen. — EPS
