Resolution for 2017

In reading this Old Testament scripture, we are given a good overview of the many blessings God had bestowed upon God’s people. Here is a little recap: delivery from slavery in Egypt, redemption, and provision of leaders like Moses, Aaron and Miriam to guide them. Then we get to the portion of the reading where the writer questions God as to how much and what worldly possessions should be offered as repayment for God’s good blessings. The reply comes with these beautiful thoughts: act justly, love kindness, walk humbly with God.

Several years ago, when our daughter was a teen and attending our local Camp Kinasao at Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan, this was the theme verse. All summer, songs, skits and Bible studies that helped us all to see what goodness God has shown us were shared with the campers.

It has been many years since that experience at Bible Camp, but the impact of that verse and theme still resonates in my mind. Let us thank God for these basic requirements of us. It is a new year. Perhaps we can make this our prayer theme each new day of 2017. Let us act justly, love kindness and walk humbly with our God!

Lord, may we be humble as we daily show love and kindness to all in our walk of faith. Amen. — EPS
